Mar 12 Africa Bridge

Come join us this Friday evening at 7 PM (immediately after Stations of the Cross) in the Parish Hall for a bowl of warm soup and an informative presentation by Barry Childs on Africa Bridge.
Africa Bridge is a non-profit organization established in 2000 to address the extreme child poverty in Tanzania-a problem exacerbated by the high mortality rates of young parents with HIV/AIDS.
For two years Barry Childs conducted interviews with various African leaders, as well as village children and adults, Africa Bridge's mission grew out of these interviews.
Barry understood that by drawing on Africa's deep values of community and relationship, combined with Western technology and resources, a bridge could be built linking the western and African worlds - a bridge over which diverse cultures can share complementary gifts and lessons to create innovative and collaborative solutions to extreme child poverty.
With a headquarters office on the campus of Marylhurst University and a field office in Tanzania, Africa Bridge literally connects our parish to Africa.

Mar 19 Lake Oswego Transitional Shelter Ministry

Come join us this Friday evening at 7 PM (immediately after Stations of the Cross) in the Parish Hall for a bowl of warm soup and an informative presentation by Ann Geller about the Lake Oswego Transitional Shelter Ministry
People are often surprised to find out that Lake Oswego has two Transitional Shelters to help homeless families transition into permanent housing. Nevertheless, Our Lady of the Lake along with six other LO churches have been quietly supporting and operating these shelters for over 20 years.
In addition to financial support from the churches, volunteers from the different churches provide direct support services to guest families on a rotating 2-week basis.
According to Ann, "We have a dedicated group of volunteers. Volunteer activities include babysitting, organizing dental work, outfitting a teenager for school, providing occasional transportation, mentoring in budgeting, nutrition, and shopping."
Come learn more about this surprising ecumenical ministry to the homeless in Lake Oswego.
