HIGH SCHOOL CONFIRMATION

The Sacrament of Confirmation is a completion of the sacramental entrance into the Catholic Faith. It is a continuation of the Sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist. The Holy Spirit received at Baptism and witnessed to in the Eucharist is now an acknowledged presence in the person’s life. Those receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation are called to live as disciples of Christ. All Catholics assist them in this. It is time to step forward and be one of the members with all rights and privileges. Preparing for Confirmation involves a period of reflection and discussion on being Catholic. It is internalizing the Tradition of the Church and seeking a stronger connection with the Word of God.

CONFIRMATION REQUIREMENTS 2009/2010

PRE-REQUISITE: Weekly Sunday Mass Attendance.
Confirmation Sessions: Must attend 6 of 7 Monday Confirmation Sessions. Typically 1st Monday of the Month
Retreat: Students must attended the parish Confirmation Service Retreat (April 9-11) SAVE THE DATE NOW!
Life of Church:
1. Greater Church:
  1. Amazing gRace: Scavenger Hunt Race through Downtown Portland. (All Day- Oct. 11th)
  2. INCREASE Youth Rally: Join over 150 other teens from all over Oregon for a day to celebrate our faith and experience the Greater Young Church (Sat. 3/13/10 - 10am-10pm)
2. Parish Life: 3 Life Teen Nights: 10/25/09, 2/28/10, 4/25/10
Christian Service:
1. Community:
  1. 3 of 6 Service Projects (10/18/09, 11/15/09, 12/13/09, 12/20/09, and 2 more in Spring)
  2. 1 Resurrection Project (bring something back to life for the benefit of the community - planting a garden in a overgrown space, refinishing a rocking chair & donating it, or cleaning out a neighbor's garage so it can be used again). This is to be done with Sponsor.
2. Church: 10 Hrs. (Examples: St. Vincent de Paul, RE Catechist, Edge Leader, Liturgical Min. Usher, Greeter, Sacristan, etc.) Please turn (monthly) as you complete your hours.
Sponsor/Teen Meetings: Go through Worksheet (On Own Time)

3. Researching & Choosing your Saint Name
Questionnaire and Confirmation Process Form: These are to get to know where you are in your faith (pursuing the sacrament of Confirmation) and to evaluate/reflect on the Confirmation process (see where you have grown). The Survey will be given at the beginning and at the end of the sacramental preparation.
